On-line liquid concentration or density measurement for process control applications in the oil and gas refining and petrochemical industries

The Vaisala K-PATENTS Process Refractometer PR-23-G is a heavy-duty refinery model designed to meet the unique requirements of the refining and petroleum industries. Typical applications include accurate liquid concentration measurements, such as sulfuric acid in alkylation, ethylene glycol, amine, or potassium hydroxide (KOH) in gas processing, multi-product (crude oil, fuel oil, diesel) interfaces in trade handover operations, and lubricating oil processes in refining.

Refractometer sensors are mounted in the process directly through welding studs or through 1 inch, 2 inch, or 3 inch cross-flow tanks. The PR-23-RP operates accurately and reliably in harsh refinery conditions due to the rugged sensor, innovative non-soldered sensor body, and self-cleaning or optional automatic cleaning system functionality. Provide essential safety and hazardous area authentication for hazardous areas.

The measuring range covers 0-100% (by weight). The accuracy is usually ±0.1 % bw and the measurements are automatically temperature compensated. Low and high concentration alarms can be configured. Due to the digital sensing technology, even a large number of suspended solids, bubbles, or color changes do not affect the measurement or accuracy.

Each sensor is equipped with a calibration certificate that compares a set of standard liquids to the actual sensor output. Calibration and accuracy can be verified in the field using certified refractive index liquids and Vaisala documentation procedures.
